I am an award-winning professional photographer based in Bloomington, Indiana, and working regularly in Cincinnati, Ohio, and New York City. I have an extensive background in news and documentary photography, but now concentrate my efforts in the areas of fine art, commercial and editorial portraiture and still-life (product) photography, as well as personal photography that includes professional headshots, fashion/glamour portraits and intimate/boudoir portraits; all alongside my continued work in reportage.
I have been photographing professionally since the late 1970s. After serving an apprenticeship under my father—a part-time professional photographer—I began shooting sports and spot news events as a freelance contributor to the daily newspaper in my hometown of Columbus, Indiana.I studied photojournalism at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, and later studied fine art and commercial photography at Academy of Art University in San Francisco, which ultimately led to the two distinctly different paths my career has taken.
I have worked full-time in a variety of capacities within the photography industry, including as a staff photographer for daily and weekly newspapers and as a freelance photographer for a variety of publishing clients. My images have earned numerous awards and professional recognitions through the Hoosier State Press Association, Kentucky Press Association and Associated Press Managing Editors.
I have been very happily married to the love of my life, Linda, for almost 30 years, and together we have two adult sons. All of them are active in the arts in one way or another. Currently, I am the associate editor of Bloom Magazine, a culture and lifestyle magazine in Bloomington, Indiana.
